Discover the Fortress cycle trail
A spot of history – and lots of nature! The 85 km fortress cycle trail takes you on a tour of the 19 great fortresses dotted around on either side of the Rhine.
The Piste des Forts, or fortress cycle trail, covers 85 km in France and Germany on a trail which winds between the rolling hills of Hausbergen, through the Bruche valley and the Rhine forests of Illkirch and the Wantzenau and takes you round the 19 fortresses of the "Fortress Belt".
The fortress cycle trail offers a fantastic variety of features, winding through the shade of the forest and past half timbered houses and lock managers' cottages. The trail has no major difficulties and can be ridden in one go or in several stages, with the family or with friends. It can be accessed using the cycle tracks running along the Marne - Rhine, Bruche and the Rhône – Rhine canals.
The cycle trail was built in partnership with the Conseil général du Bas-Rhin and the town of Kehl.
