Pollution alerts and environmental Crit'air sticker

The Eurometropolis has decided to make a pollution alert system available to its citizens, enabling them to be informed by e-mail or text message of the implementation and of the lifting of pollution peak measures and/or driving restrictions.

Since the 1st of November 2017, the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg has added a new system to the emergency measures it can take in the Eurometropolis area in the event of an extended and intense pollution episode. It is known as "circulation différenciée" which means that all non eco-friendly vehicles can’t be used during the rest of the episode.

You can easily sign up online to be informed when a pollution episode occurs and the special "pollution peak" transport fares are implemented, as well as when the driving restrictions are enforced and when they are lifted. Once your registration has been validated, it will become effective within 2 weeks.

Eurometropolis voluntary plan

During a pollution episode, the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg, CTS (Public transportation - Compagnie des Transports Strasbourgeois), the Grand Est Region and Strasbourg Mobilités operate a joint incentive scheme to encourage the use of public transport rather than private cars. Special fares apply in the buses and trams of the CTS's urban network of the Grand Est Region's Réseau 67 network and to the Vélhop bike rental system. This voluntary plan comes in addition to the measures that could be taken at the same time by the Prefect.

When do driving restrictions apply?

During pollution episodes, the Prefect has the power to implement restrictions in various fields, including transport (for example lowering the speed limits on the roads), industry, and agriculture. These measures become progressively more restrictive if the pollution episode persists, and they can be completed by driving restrictions, which means that non eco-friendly vehicles can’t be used during the rest of the episode.
